Москва е сред най-значимите културни средища на българите през XIX в. В Москва след средата на XIX в. се утвърждават първите представители на модерната българска литературна, научна и политическа интелигенция. Сред тях са Любен Каравелов, Георги Теохаров, Константин Миладинов, Райко Жинзифов, Нешо Бончев, Марин Дринов, Константин Геров, Христо Даскалов и др.
